Handcrafted in the royal county of Meath, Norman Pratt’s Victorian Planthouse is a truly unusual product in today’s world of plastic imitations. Here is an exceptionally sturdy greenhouse built to
stand the test of time.

Made from sustainable wood, these Traditional Greenhouses are normally finish painted and have a clever aluminium roof component that eliminates maintenance to the roof.

Unlike many of it’s aluminium counterparts that have to be hidden from view your Victorian Planthouse will have a more formal appearance that will provide vertical structure to a well planned garden and can be ‘shown off’ proudly.

Ideally suited to a prominent site in a medium to large garden, a Victorian Greenhouse will quickly become the main focus of attention. Throughout much of the year the planthouse is a ‘Hive of activity’ but with welcome bouts of peaceful tranquillity. Don’t forget to slow down and take stock of nature’s wonderful bounty.

For over 50 years Norman Pratt has been creating fine buildings of glass and wood. Our timber Planthouse reflects the charm and detail of Victorian times. Using the very best materials and the most up to date technology each building is created to provide many years of productive life. Store vulnerable specimens over the winter, produce tender vegetables for the kitchen or create a retreat for you favourite hobby. Norman Pratt has designed this unique building to be more than just a greenhouse.  It becomes a practical addition to the home as well as the garden.

Once you have decided on the most suitable size for your needs, and your garden, go to our ‘request quotation’ form. Here you will be able to choose from our standard range. Fill in the details and we will reply promptly with a quotation which will include installation costs. If you wish to go ahead we will agree terms and set up a delivery date that suits you.

If you don’t find just what you want we may be able to make it especially for you. Leave some
information or request a call back to discuss your needs. Lean to or three quarter span greenhouses
usually need to be tailored specifically for the location.

As with our conservatories we provide an off – standard service so that a special greenhouse can be made specifically for you… Lean to, and three quarter span models can be manufactured to individual requirements. We enjoy the challenge of replacing older dilapidated greenhouses, sometimes with nothing more to go on then the base walls to tell us what the original looked like.

POSITIONING YOUR GREENHOUSE

Take care to site your new greenhouse correctly. While it is sometimes possible to re locate a freestanding model, this can be far more difficult with a lean to. In either case it is well worth taking the time to think it through, as changes can be troublesome and expensive. If in doubt please contact us for some advice. Just some of the issues to consider are listed below.

  • The position should receive the maximum light.
If a freestanding greenhouse is sited north to south each side will catch the sun.
  • Avoid a windy site.
Shelter is important as wind has a serious cooling effect.
  • Make sure the site is not shaded by overhanging branches or trees.
  • Your glasshouse should enhance the garden, and never dominate it.
  • Make sure it does not create awkward little corners that are difficult to look after.
  • The site should be clear and level.
Make sure to move any important planting in good time to make way for the greenhouse.
  • If you would like mains water or electricity laid on, you should choose a site close to the source.
